Mission
JASI is a not-for-profit 501C3 organization and non-political voluntary association whose purpose is to promote friendly international relations, cultural activities of interest to members, and mutual understanding between the peoples of the United States and Japan. Our chapter was formed in 1989 after meeting members from a similar chapter located in Chicago, Illinois.
The club's current membership is a diverse group including individuals of all age ranges -- some single, some married, and some families with small children. Almost all of our current members have traveled to Japan. They have a strong desire to promote international relations and want to continue learning about each other's cultures.
JASI's fiscal calendar runs from January 1 to December 31. Please click here for this year's meeting schedule.
Annual student membership fee - $10
Annual individual membership fee - $20
Annual family membership fee - $30
Annual supporter membership fee - $40
Members receive a monthly newsletter and attend monthly meetings in Des Moines with programs designed to promote friendship and education among members with a similar interest. Occasionally JASI plans special out of town group trips. Members sometimes receive discounts to JASI special events. The biggest annual event for club member is the Celebrasian Festival scheduled for one Saturday in May from 10AM-8PM, at Des Moines, Iowa. This event is coordinated by Iowa Asian Alliance and JASI will host a Japanese Village.
